Critics argue that this clashes with the “America First” sentiment in recent election campaigns. And it’s not just patriotism—there’s a laundry list of concerns. For starters, the H1-B system reportedly has its fair share of misuse, like cases of workers being underpaid (Indian nationals make up nearly 75% of recipients). Oh, and there’s the whole eyebrow-raising thing about H1-Bs being handed out for jobs like convenience store clerks or hotel cooks. Yikes.
